We recently did our first New Zealand hut trip. It makes for an easier trip with the smaller ones since all you need to bring is a sleeping bag and food. I love how lush and ragged the forests are here with so many different layers of canopy, compared to the Eastern US that feel more blobby, or the western US where for forest looks more like a carpet.
