Birthdays

Hopscotch just turned four. That meant it was party time for her and 12 of her closest friends. It was a Peppa Pig themed party. One of Hops’s teachers lhas a little sid ebusiness doing cakes so she made an amazing cake with Peppa’s house and a muddy puddle, and even little edible Peppa and Georges. We played pin the tail on Peppa and had a Peppa pinata which was a hit. We didn’t have a problem finding one in a store here, but apparently they aren’t all that common since a few parents had never seen one at a party before.

We did a have a couple of kiwi staples – sausage rolls and cheerios (a small sausages in bright red casing, not the cereal). When Kelly was chatting about the party with a friend she mentioned to Kelly that we had to have them. When Kelly asked do I have to? the answer was “only if you want people to come to her party next year”. We did skip Pass the Parcel, a game we’ve seen at other parties here, There’s a small package wrapped in many layers of brown paper.  The kids sit in a circle and pass it around while music plays. When the music stops, the kid holding the parcel pulls off a layer of paper, and there will be a little piece of candy inside. It keeps going around until the last layer is reached, which is wrapped in wrapping paper, with something small like a matchbox car inside.

All in all the kids had a great time and it was nice to see some of the other parents outside of daycare drop off / pick up.
