Winter is coming

It’s starting to get cold here. We’re less than 2 weeks away from the first day of winter, so it’s not unexpected, but still feels a bit strange given the cool summer we had. Cold for Wellington isn’t the same as cold for Colorado though. Although it’s getting down to 5* or so at night (about 40*F) it usually only makes it below freezing a few times a year here. We have plans to take advantage though and made reservations for a long weekend of skiing in a couple of months, so excited for that. We’ll be heading up to the ski fields at Mt. Ruapehu which will be my first tme skiing on an active volcano. And Hop’s first time ever, so I’m very excited for that.

We went to the Lux Light Festival last weekend which was fun. Otherwise, not too much new, so here’s a couple of random things. First, a little kiwi slang.  You flick someone an email and nut out a problem. And here’s a picture of some fijoas. They had just gone out of season when we arrived, so we had to wait until now to finally taste them. They’re fairly popular here although they come from South America originally. You scoop them out like an avocado, but the taste is…  Umm. Very hard to describe.  A little pearish, but not really. A little tangy. No…  You just have to taste one.20170519_195124
