Singapore, then Bangkok, then Hong Kong… Our container is more traveled than we are. One of the cool things about the internet age is that there are websites where you can track a ship on the ocean. I got in touch with our shipper a few weeks ago to check on the progress of our container. Unfortunately we learned that it was a week behind schedule, but he was able to give me the name of the ship it was on so we could track it. We picked it up in Bangkok (where it had just arrived from Singapore) and watched it as it went to three different ports around Hong Kong. Next stop New Zealand! Or not. I watched as it left port headed for Vancouver.

After getting in touch with our contact here in New Zealand we found that it had switched boats, probably in Singapore, and was just leaving Brisbane for Auckland. As I write it’s off the east coast headed for Christchurch, but still scheduled to be in Wellington on friday. Kelly’s work mates have been great and have variously lent us a camp table and some chairs for our dining room, a mattress for Hopscotch and and air bed and bedding for us. It’s allowed us to move into our house wihch has been great, but we are definitely looking forward to seeing our container again. We’re told to expect 7-12 days from the time it arrives into port to make it through customs and quarantine. Assuming there hasn’t been a massive spider hatch in the container during the journey (as happened to one of Kelly’s work mates who recently moved here from France) we should see our furniture and other stuff soon.
