The house is sold, so if we change our minds now we’ll be living in our big car camping tent. It went live on MLS on last thursday. We decided it would be much easier all around if we stayed away so we braved yet another(!) snow storm to go up to Kelly’s aunt and uncles cabin near Back Hawk in the foothills/mountains. And it was a good thing we did since over the weekend there were almost 20 showings, plus what our agent said was one of the busiest open houses she’s had, despite the bad weather. By monday night we were under contract. And to top it off, the offer we accepted was ok with renting the house back to us until we leave in August which means we won’t have to find a short-term place to stay or put our stuff in storage. We have a nice enough house, though the layout isn’t ideal, but that old adage of location, location, location paid off since there’s nothing else for sale anywhere near in the same price range. So assuming the inspection and everything else goes ok we will be closing towards the end of June.
That was the big news, but I’ll also mention that we have a couple more confirmations to report. The deposit went through (finally) for the short-term accommodation in Auckland, so we have a place to stay for a few weeks when we first arrive. The pet’s quarantine is also booked and confirmed. It you’re like me, you probably imagine a sterile looking building with white cinder block walls, fluorescent lights and chain link gates. But actually it’s out in the country south of Auckland and looks like it’ll be a fun place for them to stay. Well Greta at least.
So at this point almost everything is booked and confirmed except for our stopover in Fiji. There’s still a lot to do, but it feels like we’ll finally have a bit of a respite, at least for a little while.
